Planning is officially underway on the Geraldton Green Connect Project which will see the transformation of Maitland Park into a multiuse space powered by renewable energy featuring an educational and culturally immersive landscape.
The grant funded planning stage aims to deliver a triple bottom line business case along with detailed designs and documentation that will improve pedestrian safety, resolve traffic congestion and create a precinct that heavily fosters education in nature and science for young people.
91视频 Mayor Jerry Clune said the two year planning process will build on the engagement undertaken to date and continue to involve stakeholders and the community.
“The Green Connect Project stems from the Maitland Park Transport Hub Concept Masterplan that a very diverse group of stakeholders developed to address the multifaceted issues and opportunities the school precinct presents,” he said.
“I’d like to thank them for the time they took to develop the Concept Plan and look forward to continuing to work together throughout the development of the comprehensive design and business case for the Project.
“I’d also like to thank Bundiyarra Aboriginal Community Aboriginal Corporation, Geraldton Universities Centre, the Australian Urban Design Research Centre and the Town Teams Movement who have partnered with the City on this transformative Project.”
Over the coming 24 months there will also be opportunities for the community to take part in the design process that will include identifying activation and education opportunities for Maitland Park.
“Community workshops will be widely advertised and I encourage everyone to take part when the time comes,” Mayor Clune added.
“At the end of the planning stage the City will have all the documentation needed to seek external funding for the delivery stage of the Project,”
The Australian Government has provided $3,382,420 from Round 1 of its regional Precincts and Partnerships Program to support planning, detailed design and a comprehensive business case for a multi-use parkland precinct, small-scale pavilion and sustainable transport hub.
UDLA, an urban design and landscape architecture consultancy with extensive local government project experience will lead a diverse team of technical experts to deliver the planning stage of the Geraldton Green Connect Project.
This project falls under the Environment pillar of the City’s Strategic Community Plan and reflects the organisation’s commitment to a creating a desirable and sustainable built and natural environment that is responsive to community aspirations.
