Firebreaks

Each year, the City issues a Fire Hazard Information Booklet and a Fire Hazard Reduction Notice, outlining the minimum legal requirements for all landowners and occupiers to prepare for the bushfire season. These documents are issued under Section 33 of the Bush Fires Act 1954, and compliance with the outlined requirements is mandatory by law.

The booklet is published in the State Government Gazette, the local newspaper, and on the City’s website.

Fire Mitigation Requirements

All fire mitigation measures must be in place and maintained from 5 October to 1 May each year.

Starting 5 October, the City conducts inspections of all properties within its boundaries. Properties found to be non-compliant will be notified and required to take corrective action to meet compliance standards.

If you identify a property that appears non-compliant, you can submit a report for review.
