The project stems form the Maitland Park Schools Precinct Transport Hub Concept Masterplan.

The grant funded planning stage aims to deliver a triple bottom line business case along with detailed designs and documentation that will improve pedestrian safety, resolve traffic congestion and create a precinct that heavily fosters education in nature and science for young people

Over the coming 24 months the project consultants will reengage with stakeholders involved in the develoment of the Maitland Park Transport Hub Masterplan. Project partners Bundiyarra Aboriginal Community Aboriginal Corporation, Geraldton Universities Centre, the Australian Urban Design Research Centre and the Town Teams Movement will also be engaged in this transformative project. There will also be opportunities for the community to take part in the design process that will include identifying activation and education opportunities for Maitland Park.

At the end of the planning stage the City will have all the documentation needed to seek external funding for the delivery stage of the Project.

The Australian Government has provided the City with $3,382,420 from Round 1 of its regional Precincts and Partnerships Program for the Green Connect Project that will support planning including the detailed design of the precinct and the development of a comprehensive business case for a multi-use parkland precinct, small-scale pavilion and sustainable transport hub. Transport Hub

What's in the Maitland Park Schools Precinct Transport Hub Concept Masterplan?

The transport hub features covered busports and a covered carpark with solar panels. Low fencing and landscaping will channel pedestrians to a central promenade which leads to two major street crossings on Maitland Street and Carson Terrace.  A student hub is also included where students can safely wait to catch their buses in a supervised area.Generous footpaths around Maitland Park will encourage cycling to and from school.

The plan also involves street and intersection modifications including a roundabout at the corner of Carson Terrace and Cathedral Avenue and realigning Carson Terrace and Maitland Street intersection. Designated kiss and drops have been added on Maitland Street and Carson Terrace.

Potential upgrades to Maitland Park will transform the area into an education precinct that features a multi-use community/school pavilion, youth plaza, nature playground and outdoor learning spaces.

A sculpture/botanical trail and education loop along with an arboretum will encourage visitors into the park.
